Vision thru the trees

Just having a little fun with these photos. Spotting the Grand Tetons thru the forest, and getting closer and closer....

Yellowstone Park: South West Quadrant

Today, we ventured to the Southwestern section of Yellowstone. We crossed the Continental Divide 3 times. We also decided to continue south to the Grand Tetons.

Leaving The Park

Bighorn Sheep: Before a chlamydia (pinkeye) epidemic in 1982, almost 500 bighorn sheep lived on the northern range. The population has been slow to recover to about 300 at present. Males can weigh 300 pounds. While both males and females grow horns, it can take seven years for a male to grow a distinctive full curl. The bottoms of its feet are concave, enabling it to travel across escape terraine more readily than its predators.

We encountered this Elk (Bull) while leaving the Park late yesterday afternoon. I'm sure he crossed the road, as he made his way to about 50 feet from our car by the time we got up to him. A Park Ranger was directing traffic.
The most abundant large animal in the park, elk populations in summer can reach 15,000 animals across seven different herds. By mid-summer, elk are at high elevations seeking nutritous forage. Winter populations can be 70 percent less since most migrate outside the park.

Bulls can weigh 700 pounds and stand five feet at the shoulder, comparable to an average horse.

Geyser

You can hardly make out the man fly-fishing.

You can hardly make out the Eagle that I spotted in the tree.

Yellowstone Park: North West Quadrant

These pictures are taken as we first entered Yellowstone Park. We drove into Madison, up to Norris, on to Mammouth Hot Springs. We had lunch. Then we ventured over to Roosevelt and came South down to Canyon Village. Back to Norris, and Madison and out. Tomorrow, we are taking in the South West Quadrant which will include Old Faithful. Hope you enjoy these.

Below, look how tiny the cars are. Gives you an idea of how massive it was.

There was a massive wildfire in 1988. These Plaques will explain it, and also why there is so much fallen trees everywhere. Here's a pic of the fallen trees, and then the plaques.

We are in a drought also this year.

I love this pic. I do not edit any of them.

Another favorite of mine...

This one also. It's just beautiful

Jim captured this very well!! Camera couldn't take it in to the top.

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park

210 S. Electric St., West Yellowstone, Montana (406) 646-4466
The people here drive ATV's legally on the road. A guy just pulled up to a travel trailor next to us, he's driving an ATV and has a tiny dog on his lap sitting up. I saw a lady on a bike with a cat in the basket (somewhere...). Now i got a small dog on an ATV. Gotta love it.
The air here is so clean. And thin. Temps will range from 75-82 (highs) and 45-38 (lows) while we are here.
